Having been “the next big thing” yourself just a few years ago, do you ever fear how quickly acts can come and go? What is the key to maintaining success in a changing music scene?
We’ve sort of been “the next big thing” for years. We’ve never actually had a big moment. We’ve never been on the radio, we’ve never been on MTV, and we’ve developed this super awesome, loyal, grassroots following. I just want to do this forever. It’s what I’m supposed to do, I think. I don’t want this to be over one day, and look back and be like, “Man, I just spent so much time focused on trying to get to the next place when I had this amazing thing happening. I was playing music and we had this awesome fan base.” Ultimately, and most importantly, we’re aware that God has worked through this music in a big way, and that is by far the biggest achievement and the thing to be proud of and happy about.
The Rocket Summer is categorized as cheerful, buoyant music, which Avary has no problem with, but he is in the process of venturing outside of that realm to prove that The Rocket Summer can go beyond the glee.
“The fact that some of our singles have been pretty upbeat, poppy and uplifting songs, I have the stereotype of being a happy-go-lucky person who doesn’t write deep music and doesn’t have bad days,” Avary said.
“The Colleyville musician established a name for himself, delivering his own brand of instrument-heavy, upbeat tracks — a departure from the darker Dallas sound.” (via ntdaily.com)

“I’ll help you break the walls down
I’ll help you break the walls down
And bust you out
And take you home
Believe you me
You are not alone
I’ll help you break the walls down”
From JSYK interview with Bryce:
What’s the story behind your single, ‘Walls’?
That song is kind of about struggles and about having issues in your life that you just can’t seem to quote get a grip on, whether that’s depression or whether that’s anything. Just something isn’t right, you know, and it stays that way. You try all these things, and you pray and you still find yourself in this rut. And [it’s about] the importance of people and relationships, and how powerful that is. It’s just kind of about how all of that feels. I’m really proud of that song.
